On July 22, the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled the names of the mascots mentioned in this blog on Feb. 28, 2018 and Dec. 7, 2017. The Olympic one is named MIRAITOWA, literally meaning a future and eternity, and the Paralympic one SOMEITY, a word deriving from the name of the most popular species of cherry blossoms and sounding like " so mighty". The webmaster hope that they will play a very active role toward the 2020 Games.
